What Grants Are Available?

The Acorn Scholarship Fund offers these scholarships and grants to Associates of the club:

  • Scholarships for qualifying Associates for college or vocational education

  • Scholarships for children or other dependents of qualifying Associates for college or vocational education

  • Grants to recipients of scholarships for educational expenses other than tuition.

Amounts of Scholarships

  • Recipients attending 4-year universities or graduate schools can receive up to $4000 per term.

  • Recipients attending community college or professional training can receive up to $1200 per term.

Scholarships will not be paid for more than the tuition and fees the recipient needs to pay to the educational institution.

Applicants can apply for up to four terms per year.  For example, an applicant attending a fall term, a spring term, and a summer term can apply for all three terms.

Grants to individuals are limited to one-half of their per term scholarship.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for Scholarships?

Full time and part time Associates of the Club, including PRNs, may apply

  • who have worked an average of 12 hours or more per week over the preceding 6 months (312 hours total) preceding the scholarship award

  • accepted for admission to an accredited or certified degree-granting institution or certificate program as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (see https://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home ).

Associates who meet the eligibility requirements for hours worked listed above may apply for children or other dependents

  • who are claimed as dependents on the Associates' income tax form for the prior year

  • who are attending an accredited or certified post-secondary educational or vocational program.

Short term vocational programs accredited by a state agency or professional organization may also qualify for support.

The ASF Board reserves the right to make exceptions to these guidelines for unusual circumstances.

When to Make an Initial Application

Associates may submit an application for a scholarship before they or their dependents are officially accepted into a course of study at an institution or program.   However, to secure a scholarship, Associates or their dependents must be accepted  into their programs.

Reapplying for Scholarships

The initial scholarship award is for one term.  If they remain eligible and continue their programs, recipients are encouraged to reapply each term for continued support by submitting a scholarship payment form with their tuition bill.  Recipients do not need to submit additional applications.

Grants to Individuals

Scholarship recipients may apply for individual grants in addition to their scholarships.  Individual grants can be used for educational expenses related to course work like:
  • educational fees
  • supplies
  • books
  • computers
  • tools
